DART Approves $1B Funding for City, Suburban Transit

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) approved $1 billion in funding for two transit projects: the Cotton Belt rail line, to run from the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Plano, TX in the far north Dallas metro; and the D2 project, which will travel under the CBD, will be funded and built by DART by 2027.

Tarrant County, to the west, is getting ready to launch its TEXRail train service from downtown Fort Worth to DFW Airport in late 2018. The Cotton Belt would continue the TEXRail passenger service east, providing a link to DART’s Green and Red light-rail lines. Meanwhile, D2 provides another route for light rail that runs through downtown Dallas.
