DART looking to develop underutilized parking lots

Dallas Looking to Develop DART Parking Lots

The City of Dallas is seeking to turn parkings lots by six DART light-rail stations into transit-oriented developments.

The stations, all but one located south of Interstate 30, include adjacent parking areas that are often empty. The City made an agreement with DART to market requests for proposal to build on those lots. The process is getting its finishing touches from the Office of Economic Development. A lot of detailed requirements were left out to see what the respondents would come back with.

Mixed-income housing is a priority and the city thinks the program will draw a lot of interest, “If we do a good job on these we may have a lot of interest in more of them. These are parking lots we could convert into housing. We need it,” said Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Chad West.
