Builder's Remedy Expands in Southern California

Dallas, Houston Top the 2019 Housing Construction List

A report issued by Realtor.com put Dallas and Houston in first and second place, respectively, when it came to active home construction for 2019. Another Texas city — Austin — came in seventh place in the report.

The Dallas area is dealing with 63,421 permits (a 2.8% increase from the year before), with homes selling at a median list price of $335,700. The reason? Corporate relocations, Realtor.com noted. A great deal of relatively-inexpensive land available for development, combined with builder-friendly rules and regulations, also helps.

The Houston metro reports 57,021 permits, with a median price point of $310,100 — and a one-year change in permits of 33.6%. Realtor.com said that Hurricane Harvey’s devastation was one reason for the permit increases — many homes had to be razed, then rebuilt.
