Dairy Queen Owner Shuttering 29 Stores, Blames Oil & Harvey
Vasari LLC of Irving, TX filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in North Texas Federal bankruptcy court. As part of its reorganization, the company outlined its plan to close 29 Dairy Queen stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Vasari would be left with “45 remaining restaurants in growing markets,” according to a statement from the company.
In the bankruptcy filing, Vasari noted that many of its restaurants are located in oil country, meaning the decline in oil prices had an impact. More recently, the company said, several stores were “negatively impacted by Hurricane Harvey,” which led to damage, extended closures and inventory loss.
The company already closed nine stores prior to the filing of the bankruptcy petition, and anticipates it will close 20 more, mostly in East Texas and along the Interstate 35 corridor.
