Daimler Moving U.S. Innovation Hub to Midtown

Daimler AG plans to move its U.S. research and development hub from Buckhead to Midtown. The center, which is called Lab1886, is expected to open by August and will employ about 24 people.

The innovation hub has been operating at a temporary space inside WeWork’s office in Terminus 100 since 2018, and is one of four such locations in the world, along with hubs in Berlin, Stuttgart and Beijing. The headquarters of Mercedes Benz-USA, a division of Daimler North America, is located in Sandy Springs.

“Our industry is changing faster than ever,” Axel Harries, vice president of product management and sales for Mercedes-Benz, said of the innovation hub opening in Buckhead in 2018. “We are turning back into a startup, which is exactly what we were when we came up with the novel idea of the automobile.”
