Cyber Monday Marks New Single-Day High for Online Sales
Online shopping in the U.S. hit a new peak Monday, as this year’s Cyber Monday tally was projected to reach $7.9 billion, according to Adobe Analytics. The largest single-day total for digital retail sales was accompanied by a couple of other records.
“Sales coming from smartphones hit an all-time high of $2 billion, and we saw a significant spike in the Buy Online, Pickup In-Store trend” over the holiday weekend, said Adobe’s John Copeland. BOPIS traffic for the weekend was up 50% year over year.
Weekend shopping online managed a bigger Y-O-Y volume increase than either Black Friday or Cyber Monday, according to Adobe. Both Saturday and Sunday posted Y-O-Y increases of greater than 25%, compared to 23.6% for Black Friday and 19.7% for Cyber Monday.
Between Nov. 1 and Nov. 26, online shopping represented $58.5 billion in sales, a 19.9% increase, with every day generating more than $1 billion.
