Cy-Fair Going Strong, Despite Oil Slump

Though population growth in the Houston metro has fallen short of previous totals, housing projects are going strong in the northwest area around Grand Parkway and SH 290. The area, known as Cypress-Fairbanks (Cy-Fair), is experiencing dwindling lots of land, thanks to developers who are snapping up the acreage with plans for residential communities.

One such proposed project is Dunham Pointe, located in Cypress, TX. The 1,327-acre plot, on the south side of SH 290 between Mueschke and Mason Roads, will offer 3,000 homes, with 300 acres set aside for a retail development.

Archie Dunham, former Conoco CEO and chairman emeritus of Chesapeake Energy, acquired the land in 2007, and indicated construction would launch in summer 2017. Build-out could take 10 years or longer. He indicated that economic challenges haven’t impacted the development process, as the project is still in the early phases.
