Cuomo Outlines $13B Overhaul of JFK Airport
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has outlined a $13-billion overhaul of John F. Kennedy International Airport that would increase the airport’s capacity by at least 15 million passengers a year. The plan, which Cuomo presented at a meeting of the Association for a Better New York, calls for $12 billion in private funding from airlines and other sources.
“This historic investment to modernize JFK Airport and the surrounding transportation network will not only ease travel through this major hub, but it will ensure JFK joins the ranks as one of the finest airports in the world,” Cuomo said.
As the cornerstone of that investment, the governor is planning to build two new terminals, including a new international hub. The new structures, which will take years to complete, will replace what the governor’s office called “the airport’s hodgepodge of eight disparate terminal sites.” Also planned are $1 billion of infrastructure upgrades.
