Cuomo Okays Reopenings for Movie Theatres, Ski Resorts

In separate announcements over the weekend, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said ski resorts across New York State may reopen at 50% indoor capacity beginning Nov. 6 and that most movie theatres outside New York City may reopen at 25% capacity starting Oct. 23.

Both types of facilities will be subject to rigorous health and safety protocols. The reopening of ski resorts, Cuomo said Saturday, “will allow New Yorkers to have some outdoor activity this winter without having to quarantine when they come back.”

New York is among the last holdouts in enforcing a statewide shutdown of movie theatres, although some large cities—notably Los Angeles—are continuing to keep them closed.

Theatres in counties with COVID-19 “hot spots” and a 14-day average infection rate higher than 2% may not reopen yet, a stipulation that applies to Rockland and Orange Counties downstate as well as several upstate counties.
