Expanding Trans-Hudson capacity with the Gateway Program is crucil to the New York City region's economy, says the Regional Plan Association

Cuomo, Murphy Name Commissioners to Oversee Gateway Project

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy have selected appointees to the Gateway Development Commission, which will oversee construction of the $11.3-billion Hudson Tunnel Project. The appointments, Bloomberg News reported, were made in part to garner federal funding.

Cuomo appointed New York State Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez, Thruway Authority Project Director Jamey Barbas and former Secretary to the Governor Steven M. Cohen. Murphy chose Janine G. Bauer and Balpreet Grewal Virk, along with Jerry Zaro, the current chairman of the Gateway Program Development Corporation. Amtrak will appoint a seventh commissioner.

“Gateway is the single most important infrastructure project not only for this region but for the entire nation, and it will require the input of seasoned professionals who know what it takes to deliver major, multifaceted projects,” said Cuomo. The appointees, Murphy said, will provide “meaningful oversight and accountability over this project of national importance.”
