Cuomo, de Blasio Want MTA Reorganization, Congestion Pricing
A reorganization of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and the enactment of congestion pricing to help fund it, are among the highlights of a 10-point plan introduced Tuesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio. The plan also calls for a “design build” model on all major MTA construction, among other points.
Cuomo and de Blasio noted that the agency currently operates as six separate entities. The reorganization, scheduled for completion by June of this year, would centralize common functions among them.
“New York’s transit system is at the heart of its success, and establishing dedicated funding streams, like congestion pricing, and a ‘lockbox’ for capital construction, are critical measures to ensuring growth and stability moving forward,” said Carlo A. Scissura, president of the New York Building Congress.
The plan calls for the governor and mayor to work closely with the state Legislature to implement the proposals.
