Cuomo Announces Plans to Redevelop Brooklyn’s Kingsboro Psychiatric Hospital

A team including Douglaston Development will redevelop 7.2 acres of the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center campus in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the winning proposal for the $400-million-plus project, part of his administration’s $1.4-billion Vital Brooklyn initiative, on Friday.

The development will include 900 units of affordable and supportive housing, public green space, a full-sized basketball court, areas for urban farming, a greenhouse, and dedicated space for community empowerment programs.

“The redevelopment of a portion of Kingsboro Psychiatric Center will bring more affordable housing to a community that desperately needs it, and the opportunities for healthier and greener living,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Along with Douglaston Development, the development team includes Almat Urban, Breaking Ground, Brooklyn Community Services, the Center for Urban Community Services, Jobe Development and the Velez Organization. The design team includes Adjaye Associates and Harlem-based Studio Zewde.
