Crossroads Hollywood MXU Receives Planning Commission OK
The $1-billion Crossroads Hollywood mixed-use campus received L.A. city planning commission approval. Harridge Development Group’s proposed development will offer 950 apartments and a 308-room hotel on an 8.3-acre site at 6671 Sunset Blvd. The project would be built where Crossroads of the World, a mid-1930s outdoor shopping area recognized for its rotating globe, now stands.
The proposed 1.4-million-square-foot transit-oriented project includes nine new structures, including a 26-story hotel and two residential towers, one 30 stories, the other 31. Also planned is 190,000 square feet of commercial space, including a new movie theater.
Project supporters say Crossroads Hollywood is needed to meet housing demand, and would revitalize an area in Hollywood ripe for rejuvenation. Opponents don’t like the idea of the development’s size and potential traffic impacts, and expressed concerns over historic preservation and other neighborhood issues.
