San Antonio's CPS Energy is selling off surplus land

CPS Energy to Put 14 Acres Up for Sale in San Antonio

San Antonio Business Journal reports that CPS says it has not marketed the site yet and there are no prospective buyers. Five years ago, the utility purchased the Malibu Grand Prix & Castle site on the North Side of San Antonio for $6.8 million. A 2022 valuation from the Bexar County Appraisal District indicates the three parcels of land combined have been assessed at about $7.7 million.

CPS thought they’d use the property as a site for dispatch operations for its work crews, but has since changed course and no longer need the property.

The utility has been offloading a series of properties since 2021 as part of an initiative to build its new headquarters. Just last month, the company sold what it called the Jones Avenue Service Center, a 5.9-acre site at the corner of West Jones Avenue and Camden Street, to McCombs Family Partners for $29.5 million.
