Cousins to Develop ATL HQ for Norfolk Southern Relocation

Norfolk Southern Corporation plans to relocate its headquarters to Atlanta from Norfolk, VA. The transportation company is in advanced discussions to purchase a site from Cousins Properties at 650 West Peachtree St. NW, in Atlanta’s Midtown.

Cousins Properties will manage Norfolk Southern’s headquarters development that is part of a two-tower, 22-story office project. The development includes 856,000 square feet of office space, 141,000 square feet of such uses as a daycare facility and technology center, as well as a 3,000-square-foot café and an outdoor plaza.

The move to Atlanta has already commenced, and will span the next several years as the new headquarters is constructed. Norfolk Southern’s Jim Squires told the Atlanta Business Chronicle it plans to move in two waves, including about 100 employees next year and another 400 in 2021, when the new HQ campus delivers.
