Cousins Revamping, Renaming Downtown Charlotte Office Tower

Cousins Properties is planning a multi-million makeover on one of its Charlotte high-rises. The Charlotte Business Journal says the nearly 700,000-square-foot tower will also have a new name. The Fifth Third Center will, from now on, be called 201 N. Tryon. The timing couldn’t be better. Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) vacated its 316,751-square-foot office in the building recently following the expiration of its lease. The building is 50% leased.

Built in 1997, the building will undergo changes to its interior and exterior. Facades will be redone, outdoor patios will be added, and a restaurant will be added.

The second floor will become a 25,000-square-foot tenant amenity space with a fitness center, conference room, and a game simulator.

Construction will begin this fall and is expected to deliver in the first half of 2027. Gensler is the project architect, and JE Dunn is the general contractor.

Cousins bought the tower in 2014 for $215 million.
