Council to Developer: No to Chapman Parks

The Leander City Council rejected a rezoning application for Chapman Parks, a massive redevelopment project planned for this far north Austin suburb. Developer Stantec Inc. indicated that the no-vote could mean the public utility district process will need to begin again – or the developer might end up going to another location.

The dilemma focused on concerns that, if approved, rezoning would have allowed up to 1,200 homes, townhomes and cottage housing on 317 acres near Mesta Vista Drive and County Road 280. The acreage is in Leander’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, and is zoned single-family rural at this time.

Council members and area residents expressed concerns about impact on traffic and roads, as well as density and proximity to existing homes.
