
Core Spaces Names CFO as Co-Founder Howard Moves into New Role
Logan Square-based Core Spaces said CFO Barry Howard has transitioned to a newly created role as the company’s first chief sustainability officer. He will focus on implementing an environmental, social, and governance strategy.
The student housing and multifamily development firm has appointed Lucero Castellanos as the new CFO. Castellanos, who joined Core Spaces last October to enhance financial reporting capabilities and other accounting processes, is now the first Latina to join Core’s senior leadership team.
Before joining Core Spaces, Castellanos most recently led Global Logistics Properties’ accounting and financial reporting group through the $19-billion portfolio sale to Blackstone. She previously spent 12 years working for a mix of private and public rcompanies including JLL and Equity LifeStyle Properties.
Howard co-founded Core Spaces in 2010 and served as its first CFO. “Core’s growth and scale will benefit from someone like Lucero, who has fresh eyes and institutional accounting shop experience,” he said.
