Contentious Plan for $157M Toll Road Approved
The Cibolo City Council approved plans for a private toll road project. The $157 million project will link Farm-to-Market 1103 to Interstate 10, and will be approximately seven miles. The controversy over the project is because the city, which is in San Antonio’s far northeast submarket, reportedly can’t afford it.
In the meantime, the Texas Department of Transportation has agreed to put $31 million into the project. Additional funds are expected to come from Cibolo Turnpike, which is the company in charge of the project.
If the city wants to contribute to the project, it would have to increase property tax by $.50 cents. However, the decision to raise the taxes would have to go to residents for a vote. Furthermore, residents are concerned that the deal is predicated on the city’s eminent domain powers.
