Construction on Zoo Parking Garage to Begin in Mid-’18
Construction on a new San Antonio Zoo parking garage has a starting date. Officials indicated ground would break on the structure in summer 2018, with the opening tentatively planned for spring 2019.
San Antonio’s largest municipal bond package was approved in May 2017. The zoo received $11.8 million to build the new parking garage at the zoo campus, on San Antonio’s north side. The 600-space, three-story garage will be built on an old lot near U.S. 281 and Tuleta Drive.
Zoo CEO Tim Morrow said he was glad the bond passed, because the visitor count has been increasing. “The 1.25 million visitors last year makes us the second most-attended zoo in the state, and puts us in the top 10 for attractions attendance,” he said, following passage of the the bond.
