Construction Underway on Edinburg Transit Terminal
Work began on the $5.4-million Edinburg Transit Center, which will be home to the Valley Metro bus service that serves South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. The 15,000-square-foot facility will also be the new headquarters for the Edinburg Economic Development Corp., which donated the 1.2-acre site at 617 W. University Dr. for the center. The project will be completed in early 2018.
The center is being developed, in part, because Edinburg is the seat of Hidalgo County. As such, “We are a center of government, and people come from all over the county to do business here. We are a center of education. UTRGV is a commuter university, people come from all over the Valley to go to school at this campus a block away. . .” said Edinburg Mayor Richard García. “So, this is very, very important, not only to the City of Edinburg, but to the people of this region.”
