Construction Underway on $47M San Antonio Recycling Plant
Balcones Resources is moving a lot of dirt and setting foundations for what will be a 200,000 square foot recycling facility. Once up and going, the site will be able to process 50 tons of material per hour. Per its contract with the City of San Antonio, Balcones will receive 25% of the proceeds generated from the sale of the recycled materials. The city gets 75%. Over the 15 years of the agreement, the city is expected to net over $100 million.
The San Antonio Business Journal reports the company won the $113.6 million contract from the City Council in April 2022. $47 million of that will go towards the cost of construction at the site near the intersection of Loop 410 and Freeport Road. The company has said that it plans to hire 70 people for the plant. It should start operation August of 2024.
Houston-based Kingham Dalton Wilson Ltd. is the design/build firm attached to the project.
