Construction on $250M Navistar Facility Delayed Amid COVID-19 Concerns
Navistar International Corp. pushed back the groundbreaking for its planned $250-million truck assembly facility in south San Antonio, due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Officials had originally planned to launch construction on the project in March; the date has been pushed back to May of this year.
According to Jenna Saucedo-Herrera with the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, the project is still a go, with dirt work continuing to progress.
The global truck manufacturer announced, in mid-September 2019, that it had targeted San Antonio for its plant, which has the potential of employing 250. The Illinois-headquartered company is planning to build medium- and heavy-duty trucks at the factory, which will be near the Interstate 35 and 37 corridors.
