Construction Launches on Mission, TX Event Center

Mission, TX began construction on a new event center that was several years in the works. Officials with the Rio Grande Valley city hope the 40,000-square-foot facility on Shary Road and Victory Avenue will help bring more revenue into the coffers.

The $16 million facility will replace the current community center, and will include an 18,000-square-foot ballroom that can be divided into different meeting areas, and a 10,000-square-foot lobby, which can also double as an activity space. A walking track and 15,000 square feet of patio space will also be part of the development.

The event center is one of three components being planned, with the second being a 750,000-gallon water tower. The third component is 19 acres owned by the Mission Economic Development Corp. The city will partner with the EDC to attract retail, hotels and restaurants to the acreage.
