Construction Begins on Historic Ritz Theater

Campbell Construction has launched an intense renovation on the Ritz Theater at 207 N. Main St. in downtown Midland, TX. Once the building has been gutted and rebuilt, it will be the new headquarters for Basin PBS, the Permian Basin’s local PBS affiliate.

The Ritz renovation will cost more than $3 million, with the city putting approximately $900,000 toward the project. The remainder was funded through community support and local foundations. Basin PBS hopes to begin operations in its new home during summer 2017.

The Ritz was built in the late 1920s, and was operated as a theater until 1984. It has also had life as a night club and church, but was abandoned in 2003. PBS announced its intent to renovate the former theater in 2014.
