Construction Date Set on New Hidalgo County Courthouse
Groundbreaking on the new Hidalgo County courthouse is anticipated to take place in September 2018, with an official ceremony slated for early October. The 333,000-square-foot, seven-story facility will include 31 courtrooms, office space and jail cells. The $150-million courthouse is expected to be complete by 2021, and will be situated at 12th Avenue and East Cano Street in Edinburg, TX.
HDR Architecture Inc. is the official architect of record. The designer partnered with ERO as judicial consultant. Jacobs Project Management Co. is the project manager, and Morganti Texas Inc. the general contractor.
The new courthouse will also include a central utility plant in a separate building on the site, along with a single security screening area, secure parking for judges and elected officials, and a food court for the public and staff.
