Construction Begins on The Soto, Texas’ First Mass-Timber Development

Hixon Properties Inc. launched construction on its Cavender mixed-use building in downtown San Antonio. Hixon also re-named the 150,600-square-foot development from Cavender Office Project to The Soto. The six-story building is at Broadway and Eighth Streets, on the site of a former Cavender Cadillac dealership.

The Soto will have 140,600 square feet of office space and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, with opening scheduled for February 2020. The building is also Texas’ first mass timber construction project.

Byrne Construction is the general contractor. Lake Flato Architects is the design architect, and BOKA Powell LLC the architect of record. Chuck King of JLL is handling leasing for the building.
