Construction Begins on 985 New Apartments

One of last, large parcels of City-owned land in the Bronx is becoming a 985 new affordable apartments.

“HPD is excited to celebrate the start of construction on this long-vacant site in the Bronx. This first phase of development will create 160 supportive homes for individuals in need,” said Maria Torres-Springer, commissioner of the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Breaking Ground and Comunilife will developer the $67 million first phase.

The five-buildings at La Central will also include new retail, community and recreation spaces. There will be a new YMCA with 48,000 square feet of space, a Montefiore Medical Center Diabetes Prevention Program, a rooftop farm, the Bronx Astronomy Tower and Lab, a community space and recording studio run by Music Has No Enemies, a rooftop farm, a daycare facility.
