Construction Begins on 43-Acre Park
Brooks City Base, in south San Antonio, TX, has begun construction on The Greenline, a $10.6-million, 43-acre linear park that will connect the community to the San Antonio River. Upon buildout, the park will provide 15 miles of walking, jogging and biking trails from Brooks City Base all the way through downtown San Antonio, the Pearl District and Brackenridge Park.
The park is designed by Beaty Palmer Architects, and will also provide a food truck court, four pavilions, public art and WiFi. The first phase is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.
“Aside from providing flood control, a major reason for Bexar County’s funding of the Mission Reach was to reconnect neighborhoods and residents to the San Antonio River,” Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said, at the recent groundbreaking. “The Greenline further leverages our investment by connecting the growing Brooks City Base community to the river, and giving visitors even more options for exploration when they visit South San Antonio.”
