Construction Begins on New Fannie Mae Headquarters
Carr Properties has officially broken ground on its 862,000-square-foot Midtown Center, a LEED Gold-certified office building at 1100 15th St. N.W. in Washington DC. Upon completion in June 2018, the building will be anchored by the new national headquarters of Fannie Mae.
Fannie Mae will take down 752,000 square feet, which will end up bringing approximately 2,500 employees to downtown DC from the GSA’s five separately owned and leased locations in the upper northwest submarket. Cushman & Wakefield was the tenant representative. The site was once home to the Washington Post.
In recent weeks, Carr Properties also acquired 1615 L. St. N.W. in Washington D.C. for $229 million. The property, which was acquired from an affiliate of former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, is near Midtown Center.
