Construction to Begin on 65K-SF Shady Lane Creative Studios

Architect Bercy Chen Studio LP is gearing up to begin construction on Shady Lane Creative Studios, a 64,674-square-foot creative studio in East Austin, which will also offer retail and potential art gallery space. The $13.5 million project will get underway at 1141 Shady Lane, on which now stands a 1920s-era house.

The house, which is in a state of decay right now, will be remodeled and eventually become restaurant space. In the meantime, the new building, designed around the house, will be Bercy Chen Studio’s new office space, and will also offer other creative tenants. The mixed-use development will also offer three affordable live/work studios, to be offered to artists.

Shady Lane Creative will be part of a 24-acre, master-planned development dubbed “thinkEast.” Developers Richard deVaraga and Robert Summers are the brains behind the development, in which approximately 300 affordable housing units are currently under development.
