Conn's closing 7 Arizona stores

Conn’s, BigLots Shuttering Arizona Stores

Conn’s HomePlus has filed for bankruptcy and is closing 71 of 170 Conn’s HomePlus stores. The Texas-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday. The retailer has been struggling with slumping sales amid a dip in discretionary spending.

Conn’s will close seven stores in Arizona. Stores in Yuma, Tucson, Marana and four in the Phoenix area will all shut their doors.

Meanwhile, several Big Lots store locations are set to close this year as the company faces financial hardships. Big Lots filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last month stating that it would close 35 to 40 stores this year and open three new locations.

Big Lots says the store closings are due to customers’ financial issues. The company has not specified a specific date for the closings.

There are 34 locations in Arizona, 13 of which are set to close. The stores to close in Arizona are in Flagstaff, Tucson, and nine in the Phoenix area.
