Concepts Presented for 70-Acre Seaport Village Reno
The San Diego Unified Port District is exploring six redevelopment ideas for Seaport Village, which opened in 1980 and has roughly 70 existing tenants. Developer representatives are sharing plans with the public in advance of formal presentations to the port board next month.
Concepts include redeveloping the entire 70-acre site with a host of attractions that could encompass up to 2.5 million square feet and $1.4 billion of development. Among the features being proposed are aquariums, beaches, a Ferris wheel and observation tower; food halls, hotels and performing arts buildings; and landscaped promenades and plazas.
Once California Coastal Commission review and approval is completed, construction is expected to begin in 2019 for a multi-year project timeline. The lease with Terramar Retail Centers, which operates the facility, is expiring in 2018.
