Completion Nears on First Cabana Affordable Apartments

Greenlight Communities is nearing completion on the first of a series of affordable complexes in the Phoenix area, which will open and operate under the Cabana brand.

Phoenix-specific assets, the 226-unit Cabana Washington (5300 E. Washington St.) and 252-unit Cabana 12th (4225 N. 12th St.) are under construction, and scheduled for an April 2020 opening. Cabana on Hayden (2240 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale) and Cabana on Power (6151 S. Power Rd., Mesa) are underway, with openings scheduled for winter 2020 and spring 2021, respectively.

Greenlight Communities, under the auspices of Deco Communities in Scottsdale, raised $150 million in capital to create what it dubbed “attainable” housing for the rent-burdened middle-class residents. The Cabana apartments will offer monthly rents $300-$500 per unit less than newer luxury apartments.

The developer, which said it doesn’t rely on tax credits to build, has other area sites in escrow or development.
