Community-Oriented MLK Gateway Project Well Underway in Anacostia
Partners The Menkiti Group and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development have celebrated phase one completion of the MLK Gateway initiative and, simultaneously, groundbreaking on the second phase. The partners recently secured $51 million in financing to move the project forward
MLK Gateway — located at the corner of Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE — is intended as community-oriented project that drives neighborhood impact in the heart of historic Anacostia.
Phase one features a mix of uses and restoration of 14,000 square feet of ground floor retail plus 20,000 square feet of newly built office space. Phase two includes new building with street-level retail and multistory office space above. The building will house Keller Williams Capital Properties, which plans a real estate training program for local residents.
The development of both phases is led by DC-based, Black-owned The Menkiti Group, which states that MLK Gateway is an example of a successful collaboration between the local government, the private sector and local residents.
