Commercial Construction on the Rise in Abilene

Business and commercial construction in the city of Abilene increased in 2019. Specifically, construction is almost three times greater in value this year than it was the year before, according to figures from the city.

From January 2019 through June 2019, the city permitted 132 commercial projects, valued at $74 million. During the same period in 2018, Abilene issued permits for 99 projects, valued at $24 million. Furthermore, within the past six months, Abilene’s construction almost equaled the total value of commercial projects for the entirety of 2018.

While commercial projects are being built in every area of the metro, “the downtown area of Abilene has been the focus of a lot of new commercial development of late,” the city’s Mike Warrix told the Abilene Reporter-News.
