Commercial Club of Chicago Commits to Improving Public Safety

For the first time since its founding nearly 150 years ago, the Commercial Club of Chicago is taking on the issue of public safety. The group’s Civic Committee on Thursday outlined five areas where it believes Chicago’s business community can make the most significant contributions to address both short-term acute issues and long-term root causes of gun violence.

These areas include the following:

  • Helping take community violence intervention (CVI) programs to scale
  • Hiring alumni of CVI programs with wraparound support services
  • Enhancing policing/criminal justice reforms
  • Hiring more broadly from underinvested communities
  • Investing directly in underinvested communities

“On the issue of public safety, the business community is eager and looks forward to collaborating with others, and to providing support, employment and investments where they are most needed,” said Jennifer Scanlon, chair of the Civic Committee and president and CEO of UL Solutions.

Meet industry experts at the upcoming Connect Midwest: Multifamily and Adaptive Reuse Trends, which takes place June 13, 2023 at the W Chicago City Center Hotel. Click here for more information and to register.
