Comal County to Get New Jail, Upgraded Sheriff’s Office

The current Comal County sheriff’s office, at 3005 W. San Antonio St. in New Braunfels, TX, will soon be under renovation. Specifically, a $63 million project is scheduled to remove interior jails from the sheriff’s building, and replace it with additional rooms and offices. In the meantime, the old jail will be replaced by a $53 million new building, which will be situated on 11.6 acres behind the current site.

The current jail’s capacity is 300 beds. The new jail will have 589 beds, with increases possible up to 900 beds, according to Comal County Engineer Tom Hornseth.

The project is expected to launch in late 2017, with completion scheduled for spring 2020.
