CollegeTown Envisioned as “Front Door” in Fullerton
CollegeTown, an 88-acre area in Fullerton surrounding the campuses of Cal State Fullerton and Hope International University, is now being eyed for future development. Sources say zoning changes in the works could pave the way for 3,400 housing units, as well as nearly 500,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
City leaders envision creating an arrival point to CSUF, while shaping a better sense of place by closing a street and replacing it with a 2.8-acre pedestrian plaza. The area lies between the 57 Freeway, State College Blvd., Nutwood and Chapman Ave.’s, and is largely held by private owners offering a mix of offices, restaurants and strip malls.
The CollegeTown plan is slated to go before the Planning Commission this month, and if approved, could be voted on by the City Council in March.
