Cold Storage HQ Set to Kick Off in Jurupa Valley

West Coast Cold Storage is set to build its new flagship headquarters, a 125,000-square-foot cold storage facility, in Jurupa Valley. It will feature both frozen and refrigerated space, and is planned to be in operation by the end of this year.

The location is two blocks from the 60 Freeway, providing distributors with direct access to the entire Inland Empire and beyond. This is a distinct advantage, says the owner and operator of West Coast Cold Storage, Kevin Sacalas.

“It’s a chance to provide unparalleled service and flexibility to cold storage users in Southern California,” says Sacalas. “Most existing cold storage facilities are over 45 years old. Our facility will feature cutting-edge technology which will increase energy efficiency and provide a variety of racking configurations to accommodate all our customer’s needs.”

Construction financing of $19.55 million was recently secured for the cold-storage development. George Smith Partners’ Patrick O’Donnell secured the non-recourse stretch senior construction loan at a fixed rate of 9.25 percent, sized to 81 percent of cost for 18 months.

“The cold storage industry has been struggling to meet unprecedented demand growth and this new facility will provide much-needed inventory to serve the greater Los Angeles area,” says O’Donnell.
