Clybourn Corridor Could See Tallest Residential Tower

CRM Properties Group has filed a zoning application for a 40-story, 500-unit tower at 1520-76 N. Fremont St. in Lincoln Park’s Clybourn Corridor. At 465 feet, it would be the neighborhood’s tallest building.

The project would be part of a mixed-use project on the former site of restaurant Bub City, and would supplant a two-tower, 407-unit proposal the developer submitted in 2015.

“We’re building the residential there to protect the retail,” CRM president Chuck Malk told Crain’s Chicago Business. “We want to make it more of a walking campus.”

The current proposal would include 100 affordable units under the city’s affordable-housing pilot program. Crain’s reported that Ald. Walter Burnett, whose endorsement is a crucial first step in getting the project approved, insisted on the inclusion.

Burnett told Crain’s, “We’re giving it strong consideration, and we’ve got to go through the process.”
