Cleantech Firm Leases Half the Space at Converted Lab Building in Watertown

Cleantech company Via Separations has leased more than 50,000 square feet at Berkeley Investments’ 64 Pleasant St. In Watertown, MA, the Boston Business Journal reported. The lease represents half the space at the former Sasaki headquarters, which Boston-based Berkeley Investments acquired in early 2021.

Since then, Berkeley has worked to convert the property to labs. The developer had envisioned life sciences companies as tenants, but Via makes filtration technology that reduces the energy required for manufacturing and industrial processes.

“A theme we may very well see in Boston going forward is that some of the space that has been built targeting specifically life sciences companies, all of that infrastructure has application for a variety of different types of science — call it tough tech, green tech — that also require the HVAC and mechanical systems of these lab buildings,” Dan McGrath, Berkeley’s SVP, director of asset management, told the Business Journal
