Civic Builders Relocates to Olmstead’s 180 Varick
Handler Real Estate Organization has arranged a long-term, 5,573-square-foot relocation and expansion at Olmstead Properties’ 180 Varick St. on behalf of Civic Builders, a nonprofit facilities developer that provides turnkey solutions for New York charter school real estate needs.
Civic Builders is relocating into larger space from a nearby location to accommodate its current and future growth, said Handler’s EVP Darell Handler, who arranged the lease on the tenant’s behalf along with colleague Helen Kim. He added that Civic Builders wanted to remain in Hudson Square, and was attracted to 180 Varick’s hands-on property management.
Steven Marvin with Olmstead Properties represented ownership in-house. Olmstead has owned and operated the 17-story, 300-square-foot office property since 1920.
Established in 2002 to address the immediate need for charter school facilities support, Civic Builders assumes development responsibilities to assist new charter schools in underserved neighborhoods such as Harlem, the South Bronx and Newark.
