City Using Incentives to Lure Great Wolf Resorts

The city of El Paso is proposing a multimillion-dollar incentive package in an effort to encourage Great Wolf Resorts to build an indoor water park/hotel/convention center resort in West El Paso. The incentives package, involving tax subsidies, cash grants and a large land trade, is scheduled to go before the city council for a vote on Oct. 30, 2018.

The project, if it comes to fruition, would be situated on 44 acres at Interstate 10 and Paseo del Norte. The proposed resort complex would offer 350 hotel rooms, 10,000 square feet of convention space and an indoor water park, all of which would cost $160 million to build.

The economic development agreement would give the Wisconsin-based Great Wolf Resorts 18 months to secure project financing and to determine if the project is economically feasible.
