City Shortlists O’Hare Design Finalists, Invites Public Input
The Emanuel administration on Thursday unveiled five finalists vying for the lead architect role on O’Hare International Airport’s $8.5-billion expansion. For the first time, the city is inviting the public to provide feedback on design for its airports.
Projected to span 2.25 million square feet, “the new O’Hare Global Terminal is at the center of our plans to transform O’Hare from curb to gate,” said Jamie L. Rhee, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Aviation. “The new O’Hare Global Terminal represents an opportunity not only for O’Hare and its airline partners to grow, but also will fuel new opportunities for residents and businesses from our 77 communities.”
The five proposing teams are: Fentress-EXP-Brook-Garza Joint Venture Partners; Foster Epstein Moreno Joint Venture Partners; Santiago Calatrava LLC; Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill (SOM); and Studio ORD Joint Venture Partners. Chicagoans are invited to provide feedback via an online survey through Jan. 23.
