City-Owned Convention Center Targeted for Kalahari Resort
Plans for a city-owned convention center at Round Rock, TX’s under-construction Kalahari Resorts & Conventions took another step forward. The Round Rock Transportation and Economic Development Corp. and Round Rock City Council approved the sale of $21.3 million sales tax revenue bonds to build the 200,000-square-foot convention center within the 351-acre resort.
The convention center will include a large-scale meeting space and ballroom, expected to be the largest in Central Texas.
Construction on the resort itself, at US 70 and Kenney Fort Boulevard, is underway, with completion scheduled for November 2020. The city will own the convention center, while Kalahari will be responsible for operation and maintenance. The debt will be repaid through state and city tax revenue generated by Kalahari.
