City of Tacoma Expands Downtown EV Charging Network

The City of Tacoma, in partnership with Tacoma Public Utilities and the Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability’s Downtown EV Charging Expansion Project, nearly doubled the number of publicly accessible EV chargers in Tacoma’s downtown core.

There are 21 new chargers across seven city-operated parking lots and garages. Two are located near I-705 for convenient access. Tacoma now has 51 public EV chargers downtown, including 47 level 2 chargers and two level 3 DC fast chargers, with 13 more scheduled to go live soon.

“Nearly doubling the number of publicly accessible EV chargers in Tacoma’s downtown core is a major step forward in our commitment to clean transportation and climate resilience,” said Mayor Victoria Woodards. “This expansion not only supports our 2030 electrification goals—it also ensures that downtown remains accessible, future-ready, and welcoming to residents and visitors who are making the switch to electric.”
