Fort Worth finally renovating Pier 1 building for move

City of Fort Worth Revamping Old Pier 1 Tower

It’s been about a year and a half since the Fort Worth City Council voted to move city operations into the 20-story high-rise. Documents recently filed by the city indicate they are making plans for the renovation needed to make the move. They are looking at $50 million in improvements.

In December of 2020 the city paid $69.5 million for the tower on 11.9 acres at 100 Energy Way. The sale of the building was financed with $100 million from two packages of tax-exempt seven-year notes. The amount over the sales price was going to go to renovate the building.

The Pier 1 building was built in 2003 for $94 million to be used as its corporate offices. It was not built with city workers in mind. It had finishes such as eucalyptus on the walls of the executive suite and marble floors. Following Pier 1’s demise the building was first sold to Chesapeake Energy and then Hines.
