City of Conroe Approves New Development Plan
The city of Conroe, a far-north suburb of Houston, approved a new downtown development plan. The plan was passed by the city council, and focuses on development and other steps to take to expand Conroe. In March 2017, the city commissioned Hawes Hill Calderon LLP to create a downtown revitalization program.
The plan proposes expanding downtown from a nine-block area, and also proposes creating five interconnected districts. The districts include an arts and honors location, a central business district and homestead district.
Also discussed was an incentive program to boost housing-unit development in some of the proposed downtown district. City Administrator Paul Virgadamo said the intent was to increase housing — single-family residences, townhomes, apartment complexes and condominiums — by encouraging developers to build in the districts.
