Cincinnati Finally Gets a Downtown Grocery Store
Cincinnati-based Kroger plans to open an urban format grocery story in downtown Cincinnati, within a $90.6-million mixed-use development. The store is planned to open by 2019, bringing to close a span of more than four decades that downtown Cincinnati has been without a grocery store.
The store is set within an 18-story tower, with a 139-unit multifamily tower and 555-space parking garage. The development team includes a partnership between Kroger, the city of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp., North American Properties, NorthPointe Group and Rookwood Properties.
The 45,000-square-foot store includes a second level planned to house a bar and food hall with terrace. The retailer envisions bringing a mix of four or five third-party restaurants and vendors with ready-to-eat products. The project is expected to commence construction later this summer.
